Unique Video Designs

Storytelling through short video has become one of the most important ways to communicate with audiences today.  It has grown to become a integral part of marketing plans for businesses and nonprofits alike.  But in order to be noticed, unique video design is essential. Combining videography, animation, photography, and audio, the sky is the limit when it comes to creativity.

My video editing experience began in 2018 when I edited the video recordings of Venice Interfaith’s Winter Series, American Racism, for on demand streaming on the organization’s YouTube channel. It expanded to editing weekly services for on demand viewing for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice during COVID.

I enjoyed the creative opportunities that presented themselves as I learned video editing, and took Udemy courses in Premier Pro and Adobe After Effects to learn more. When I chose courses for my certification in Graphic Design at Sessions College for Professional Design, I included courses in video editing and animation, increasing my skills once again in Premier Pro and Adobe After Effects. Below are samples of work I have done both as course work and as proof of concepts.

Social Media Video Ads

Video has become a must have for any organization online. Whether a nonprofit or business, the right video attracts views and creates conversions. Social media demands short, visually unique, eye-catching video that attracts attention up front and keeps it even in this time of short attention spans.

Below are examples of social media ads, that either were originally produced as class projects or as proof of concepts. Logos are original designs, and some of the photography used is by Karen Griffin. Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator were used to create these pieces.

Project: Create 15 second 1080x1920 social media ads based on logos designed for the Daily Logo Challenge.

The creation of these social media ads was inspired by classwork done for Sessions College for Professional Design. The original assignment was to create a 15-30 second 1080×1080 video that, while including sound, did not rely on it to tell the story. It made sense to create a social media ad, for which I used a logo and company concept already created for the Daily Logo Challenge—Java Junky. You can find my other logo designs for this challenge on Dribbble

However, the vast majority of short videos on social media are 1080×1920, so it was essential to convert the original video to this size and create the others accordingly.

Any similarity to actual companies is purely coincidental.

Broadcasting Network Station ID: Atlanta News Network

Project: Create a 15 second Coming Up Next Bumper for a fabricated television network.

This is an updated version of a concept created for a class from the Sessions College of Professional Design. The original assignment called for a 720×468 piece, but I modernized it for high-def viewing as well as added additional animation using After Effects’ 3D platform. Music Video: Graffiti Funk

Project: Create a 60-90 second video to a single piece of music.

This piece was created as the final project for a class from Sessions College for Professional Design. The project began by creating a scene script based on a piece of music, then assets were assembled to produce the video.

Inspired by the celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop and the city of Atlanta, Graffiti Funk incorporates photography of street art in Atlanta with a funk soundtrack.
